The Cardinals concluded their regular season with a thrilling match against rivals Georgia Tech on Nov. 22nd at the L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. Heading into the game, Louisville was ranked 3rd and Georgia Tech 4th in the ACC.
In a fiercely contested best-of-5 match, Louisville emerged victorious with a 3-1 win. Georgia Tech started strong, securing Set 1 with a 25-19 victory. The intensity heightened in Set 2, where Tech led until a dramatic turnaround at Match Point (24-21), with the Cardinals rallying to clinch the set 26-24 after scoring five consecutive points.
Set 3 saw Louisville gaining and maintaining an early lead, ultimately winning 25-18. Georgia Tech, however, came back fighting in Set 4, initially leading 6-1 and then 13-5. The Cardinals closed the gap with a run of five points, but Tech pushed back, extending their lead to 19-13. In a nail-biting finish, Louisville caught up, tying the set at 23-23. The set saw a seesaw battle, with Match Point swinging back and forth. Ultimately, Elena Scott delivered the match-winning ace, securing the set for Louisville at 29-27 and the match at 3-1.
Louisville wrapped up their regular season with a strong record of 24-4 overall and 15-3 in the ACC. In their final set, the Cardinals demonstrated impressive form, hitting .235 with eight aces and eight blocks. Key players showcased their talents: outside hitter Charitie Luper led with 12 kills, 13 digs, and two blocks, while opposite hitter Aiko Jones contributed 11 kills, seven digs, four blocks, and an ace. Middle blockers Cara Cresse and Phekran Kong were instrumental as well, with Cresse recording seven kills and three blocks, and Kong adding four kills and five blocks. Setter Elle Glock played a pivotal role with 41 assists, six digs, two aces, and a kill. Libero Elena Scott was also noteworthy, accumulating 15 digs and two aces in the set.
Georgia Tech concluded their regular season with a record of 24-4 overall and 15-3 in the conference. In their final match, the Yellow Jackets showcased a .229 hit rate, along with six aces and six blocks. Outside hitter Tamara Otene was a standout performer, amassing 26 kills, 13 digs, two blocks, and an ace.
Attention now shifts to the upcoming NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship bracket announcement. The much-anticipated selection show is scheduled for Sunday night at 6 p.m., to be aired on ESPN.
